Mediation Center of Eastern Carolina (MCEC), based in New Bern, NC, is a youth support nonprofit focused on conflict resolution and keeping youth out of the Juvenile Justice system through programs like Teen Court and Building Peace in the Schools. The organization was incorporated in 1989 by a group of concerned community members representing the District Attorney's office, District Court Judges, East Carolina University, and Legal Services, who were seeking to develop mediation services in Pitt County.
MCEC was struggling with inefficient processes, documentation gaps, and outdated technology. Without easily updatable notes, everything suffered - from client care and staff coordination to reporting and fundraising.
The Mediation Center selected Notehouse because they needed something built for social work, not law firms. Everything else they found was either overly complex or too expensive for a small nonprofit. Notehouse hit all their criteria: affordable, accessible, easy to use, secure, and mission-aligned.
Renee Stewart personally walked each staff member through the platform and directed anyone with questions to Notehouse's support team, whose responsiveness and availability is what ultimately got the whole team on board.
Since adopting Notehouse, the Mediation Center has found their daily workout to be lighter, they have more consistent and higher quality data, reduced stress and burnout, more confident note writing, and clearer records. Notably cheaper and simpler than Salesforce.
“There is no better company or software than Notehouse - they are uncomplicated, friendly, and always asking for and considering input from us, their clients.”

Since adopting Notehouse, the team can focus on youth rather than dreading documentation. Everyone is on the same page, and they're looking forward to exploring grant opportunities through the platform.
